What is it about Memorial Day weekend?

It’s always weird weather and between weddings and graduations the town is a flutter with people out and about. Here is an overview of a few places I’ve been to lately.

@The Deck-the reincarnation of the West Deck is serving fabulous food and Chef Rob Biela has a brand new kitchen as you can sit at the bar and watch him do his thing! Fluke has recently hired a new chef who worked with Bobby Flay for 16 years. Tough competition with the amazing Mexican fare and margaritas served at Perro Salado-one of my personal favorites.

Newport Wine Cellars is having events in their shop on Bellevue; Top of the Viking has had its grand opening and will have live music all summer.

Last night I dined at the Moorings and had a fabulous appetizer of fried oysters and a perfectly cooked lobster served with corn bread and a side of spinach-dessert was a lavender and kumquat cheesecake-dense and delicious.

If you want to walk on the wild side the food at Salvation Café has never been better. Last week I ordered the mashed potatoes, lobster and arugula salad appetizer-it was so damn good I had to have another! Their new menu has some fabulous offerings and terrific choices for vegetarians.

That’s a quick over view from me. Don’t forget Bliss for lunch and breakfast all day as is Belle’s Shipyard Café a unique spot in the heart of the Newport Shipyard-you never know who you will meet-enjoy!
