It may feel as if the streets have “rolled up” in our town and with our Patriots not in the running for the Super Bowl there is one less thing to look forward to. Many restaurants and hotels and inns are taking some time off for renovations and allowing their staff to have much needed vacations. It is my suggestion to call ahead to be sure the restaurant you might be considering for lunch or dinner is open.
This time of year the skating rink at the Yachting Center is full of family fun-they have skates to rent and plenty of hot chocolate! And there are so many new movies coming out-the cinema is a terrific way to spend the evening. I just saw Slumdog Millionaire at the Jane Pickens and there hasn’t been such a “feel good movie” with substance in a long time-check it out!
If you haven’t visited the Newport Wine Cellar on Bellevue I recommend stopping by-my column in the Newport Daily News last week told the story of Maria and David Glades and how they came upon their unique concept of a boutique wine shop.
They are planning wine classes and do regular tastings every Friday and Saturday-they are all about the “community” so introduce yourself and ask about their distinctive choices that attractively line their shelves.
If you have any news for me to report through the Newport County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Blog please email me at midgelknerr@aol.com-I look forward to hearing from you!
